The harm of carbon monoxide to the human body
Carbon monoxide poisoning is a systemic disease that mainly damages the central nervous system caused by inhaling high concentrations of CO in a short period of time.
Carbon monoxide enters the body and combines with hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin (HbCO), which makes hemoglobin lose its ability to carry and release oxygen, leading to hypoxia and poisoning of the body.
Carbon monoxide is widely used in industry and life. Carbon monoxide poisoning often occurs when coal stoves are used for heating in winter. It can cause death in 3 to 4 hours.
Reason
1. The causes of carbon monoxide poisoning in life mainly include the following aspects: use of coal stoves, charcoal braziers, etc. in poorly ventilated environments; leakage of gas stoves and gas pipes; use of gas water heaters in bathrooms; poorly ventilated Eat charcoal hot pot in dining places; sleep or stay for a long time in a car with doors and windows closed and air-conditioned.
2. Causes of poisoning Gas poisoning is carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete combustion of carbon-containing substances. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and non-irritating gas, which is difficult to detect and easy to ignore and cause poisoning. The binding capacity of hemoglobin and carbon monoxide in the blood is more than 200 times stronger than that of oxygen, and the separation speed of hemoglobin and oxygen is very slow. Therefore, once a person inhales carbon monoxide, oxygen loses the opportunity to combine with hemoglobin, so that tissue cells cannot get enough oxygen from the blood, causing breathing difficulties and causing human body poisoning.
Clinical manifestations
1. The time of mild poisoning is short, and the carboxyhemoglobin in the blood is 10%-20%. It manifests as early symptoms of poisoning, such as headache, dizziness, palpitations, nausea, vomiting, weakness of the limbs, and even short-term fainting. The symptoms are generally clear after inhaling fresh air and getting out of the poisoned environment, generally leaving no sequelae. Among them, 89 cases were mildly poisoned.
2. Medium-sized poisoning takes a little longer. Carboxyhemoglobin in the blood accounts for 30% to 40%. On the basis of mild symptoms, collapse or coma may occur. The skin and mucous membranes show a cherry red color characteristic of gas poisoning. If the rescue is timely, you can wake up quickly and recover completely within a few days, generally without sequelae symptoms. Among them, 45 cases were moderately poisoned.
3. Severe disease is discovered too late, inhaled too much gas, or inhaled high concentration of carbon monoxide in a short time, the blood carboxyhemoglobin concentration is often above 50%, the patient presents a deep coma, various reflexes disappear, incontinence, limbs Jue Leng, blood pressure drops, shortness of breath, and death soon. Generally, the longer the coma is, the more serious the prognosis is, and there are often sequelae such as dementia, memory and understanding loss, and limb paralysis.
First-aid
1. Move to a ventilated place quickly, breathe in fresh air, loosen the collar and trousers of the poisoned person, and lay his head flat so that his breathing is not obstructed. Those who have the conditions should be given oxygen therapy, and pay attention to keep warm.
2. The conscious person asked if there was a history of syncope, and the person with syncope was sent to the hospital for treatment. Those who have the conditions should go to the hospital for examination and treatment.
3. The unconscious person calls for help and is transferred to a hospital with hyperbaric oxygen chamber or photon therapy. 4. If the heartbeat is weak or has stopped breathing, immediately mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration, chest compressions, and rapid transfer to hospital for rescue.
5. Remember not to give up the rescue easily. People with severe poisoning and a history of coma must also be sent to the hospital for hyperbaric oxygen or light quantum therapy after they are awake, so as to avoid serious sequelae and brain dysfunction.
