The aim is to mobilize and guide all sectors of society to firmly establish a strong awareness of "green waters and mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", respect nature, comply with nature, protect nature, consciously practice green life, and jointly build a beautiful China.

On the 27th, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China released the theme of 2017 Environment Day: "Green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", aiming to mobilize and guide all sectors of society to firmly establish a strong awareness of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", respect nature, comply with nature, protect nature, consciously practice green life, and jointly build a beautiful China.

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th every year, reflecting the understanding and attitude of people around the world towards environmental issues, and expressing humanity's longing and pursuit for a better environment.

The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Environmental Protection introduced that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council have attached great importance to the construction of ecological civilization and environmental protection, incorporating the construction of ecological civilization into the overall layout of the "Five in One", and proposing the five major development concepts of innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing. We have successively revised the Environmental Protection Law, issued an action plan for the prevention and control of atmospheric, water, and soil pollution, promoted the reform and innovation of the system's environmental protection system and mechanism, continuously carried out activities for the implementation of the Environmental Protection Law, maintained a high-pressure situation in environmental law enforcement, and achieved positive results. The quality of the ecological environment has steadily improved. However, overall, China's ecological civilization construction and environmental protection still lag behind economic and social development, and some places still prioritize economic development over environmental protection. The quality of the ecological environment lags far behind the expectations of the people.

The person in charge said that to improve environmental quality and fill the gaps in ecological and environmental protection, we must adhere to the principle of "green mountains and clear waters are golden mountains and silver mountains", strengthen the promotion and education of ecological culture, advocate a diligent, frugal, green, low-carbon, civilized and healthy lifestyle and consumption mode, and further enhance the awareness of ecological civilization in the whole society. We must correctly handle the relationship between economic development and ecological environment protection, firmly establish the concept that protecting the ecological environment is protecting productive forces, and improving the ecological environment is developing productive forces. We should more consciously promote green development, circular development, and low-carbon development, and continuously enhance the people's sense of access to the ecological environment.

It is reported that during Environment Day, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will plan and produce public service advertisements and promotional products around the theme of Environment Day, and hold a series of environmental protection themed social education activities called "Beautiful China Tour". Various regions will also carry out rich and colorful promotional and commemorative activities around the theme of Environmental Day, combined with actual situations, vigorously promoting the concept of "green waters and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", in order to widely gather social consensus and create a good atmosphere for the whole society to participate in the construction of ecological civilization.
